The Monuments Men - Film Review

Real life Monuments Men recovering Nazi-stolen art in WWII - via Wikipedia

George Clooney's "The Monuments Men" utilizes a little known story from World War II concerning an international band of soldiers commissioned to recover works of art that had been stolen by the Nazis. The film uses this viewpoint to cover most of the horrific aspects of the War, but handles them with restraint. Essentially this is a World War II movie that can be shown to pre-teens without really getting too deep into the horrors, atrocities, and violence.

Given the pedigree of the cast, it was slightly disappointing this movie didn't become a film. There are some very well done scenes.  These are the scenes that are simple in their intensity; quiet in their confusion. Ultimately, this film will live on in cable for its star power and palatable recreation of a great tragedy.
